We’re thrilled to announce that Solugen has been awarded $2 million under the Department of Defense’s (DoD) Distributed Bioindustrial Manufacturing Program (DBIMP). This funding supports our plans to develop a multi-use modular facility aimed at cost-effective domestic production of critical dual-use chemical precursors—materials vital for both defense applications and broader commercial industries.
Meeting the DoD’s Strategic Objectives
DBIMP is part of the DoD’s initiative to bolster America’s bioeconomic strengths while ensuring the security of defense supply chains. The program is tied to Executive Order 14081, “Advancing Biotechnology and Biomanufacturing Innovation for a Sustainable, Safe, and Secure American Bioeconomy.” Solugen’s selection aligns with the DoD’s vision of scaling biomanufacturing to secure domestic production of critical materials.
Our proposed facility, which may be located at our Houston site or a new location in Marshall, Minnesota, is designed to help reduce dependence on foreign supply chains while enhancing the nation’s biomanufacturing infrastructure.
Enabling Dual-Use Innovation
The planned facility will integrate advanced modular production technologies, enabling flexibility to produce chemical precursors vital for applications in defense and beyond. By leveraging our proprietary bio-based manufacturing platform, Solugen will contribute to reducing the environmental impact of chemical production while supporting the DoD’s need for secure, domestic supply chains.
Solugen’s Commitment to Innovation
This award highlights Solugen’s commitment to innovation and sustainability. We’re proud to be among the nine companies announced in this final round of DBIMP awards, which completes the program’s first phase of investment totaling over $60 million. As we move forward, our focus remains on using bioindustrial solutions to address challenges at the intersection of sustainability, security, and scale.
We look forward to collaborating with the DoD and other partners as we transition our plans into reality and contribute to the future of sustainable, secure bioindustrial manufacturing.
